Mia woke again at 2am. She's 7 months old. We've been doing the routine for 3 days now and she still needs rocking back to sleep every time. Is this normal?

You · 2:17 am

Completely normal at day 3, and actually a good sign. Night waking at this stage isn't failure; it's her sleep cycles surfacing. The question is whether she can bridge them herself yet.

At 7 months, rocking is still a sleep association: her brain expects it to fall asleep again. Here's what to try tonight:

  • Go in after 2 minutes. Pat her back without picking her up first, 60 seconds max.
  • If she escalates, pick up briefly to calm, then put down awake-ish. Repeat.
  • Daytime naps look good on your routine. Keep them consistent. It directly affects night settling.

Message me after tonight and I'll adjust the next step based on how it goes.

Mia's day-1 plan

Tailored to your child

Here's a calm starting routine built around Mia's age (7 months). At this stage two solid naps and an early, predictable bedtime do most of the heavy lifting. Each step explains the why, so you can adjust it to fit your family.

  • 7:00 amWake & morning light

A consistent wake time anchors the whole day's rhythm and sets her body clock.

  • 9:00 amNap 1

About 2 hours of awake time is right for 7 months: this keeps her from getting overtired.

  • 12:30 pmNap 2

A longer midday nap protects the afternoon and prevents a too-early meltdown.

  • 6:45 pmBedtime routine

A calm, repeated wind-down tells her brain sleep is coming, easing self-settling.

Why SlumberPlan exists

My daughter had recurring nightmares. She was 4, and it had been going on for months. She'd wake in the night, distressed, and nothing I tried was working consistently.

It was 2am. Every search led somewhere useless: generic blog posts, conflicting advice, or a consultant I couldn't reach until Monday morning. I just needed to know what to try right now, for my actual child, tonight.

That's why I built SlumberPlan. Not a one-size PDF. Not a booked appointment. Something that's there at 2am, when the problem is actually happening.

How the plans are built

The advice behind SlumberPlan is grounded in published infant sleep research, not anecdote or proprietary method.

Published research

Every wake-window range and settling technique in SlumberPlan is sourced from peer-reviewed infant sleep literature, not anecdote or proprietary method. If it isn't in the published evidence, it isn't in the plan.

Developmental wake windows

Plans are calibrated to your child's age in months, because sleep science changes significantly across the 4-month to 6-year window. Plans span baby wake windows and nap timing through to school-age bedtime routines: a plan for a 6-month-old looks nothing like one for a 5-year-old.

Honest limits

SlumberPlan is not a replacement for a certified sleep consultant or a paediatrician. If your child has a medical history, developmental flag, or prematurity, we'll tell you clearly and not take your money. Some situations need a human.

Safe sleep standards: All plans follow safe sleep guidelines from the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) and the NICHD Safe to Sleep® campaign, and UK safe sleep guidance from the NHS and The Lullaby Trust, for every age group. SlumberPlan never recommends methods considered unsafe by these bodies, regardless of what a parent requests.
